Petals of Blood

Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o · 1977

About the Book

Ngũgĩ's most ambitious novel, set in post-independence Kenya. Four characters — Munira, Abdulla, Wanja and Karega — journey from the village of Ilmorog to Nairobi, watching their country's independence dreams turn into exploitation by a new African elite. Three directors of a brewery are murdered and the four are suspects. The novel is a searing indictment of neo-colonialism.
